This project outlines Lithos Carbon's ERW efforts in the subtropical Southeast U.S., applying superfine byproduct basalt dust to farmland for durable carbon removal. Through rigorous field sampling and a robust analytical monitoring pipeline, Lithos ensures high-integrity CDR quantifications. By sourcing byproduct superfine rockdust directly from nearby quarries and working directly with both smallholders and large farms, Lithos minimizes life-cycle emissions while improving soil health, enhancing cropland productivity, and delivering direct financial benefits to farming communities- enabling the scalable deployment of ERW across hundreds of thousands of acres.

How carbon is being removed

Enhanced Weathering (EW) accelerates the Earth's natural chemical weathering process to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. In chemical weathering, carbon dioxide dissolved in rainwater reacts with minerals in rocks, partly dissolving them and producing stable bicarbonate ions. These bicarbonate ions are transported by rivers to the ocean, where they are safely stored for thousands of years. EW is typically carried out by spreading crushed reactive rocks or minerals on croplands.
